What an absolute disgrace.

Everything about the meal was perfect! Prompt service. A live pianist. Delicious rolls and muffins with three spreads. Ample bar options and wine list. Fresh fish. Don't miss getting the potato cup. We'll definitely be back.

The wait staff here is some of the worst I have ever seen. Inattentive, uninformed, and overall just plain lazy. We had a party of 7 and when ordering drinks, a member of our party asked for a Sam Adams. They did not have Sam Adams which is fine, but the waiter did not even offer an alternative. One of our party members had to get up and walk past the bar to see the beer selection. We then ordered a Stella that was promptly forgotten by our waiter. He also did not bring out bread until we asked him to. The food is the only reason this restaurant is even worth one star, that said, the chicken is not worth your time. I could've easily made the same thing at home with a frying pan and panko chips. The rest of my party did enjoy their food, despite my chicken experience. Overall, I would avoid. We have been to this restaurant a number of times, and each time we have had a terrible experience with the wait staff. With the vast number of excellent dining experiences available in Cape May, it is a miracle that this place stays open.

This review is being judged solely on the hostess/ seating staff. My boyfriend and I made a dinner reservation to celebrate my birthday, after we walked in we were ignored for 15 minutes until my boyfriend interjected into the hostess area and told her we made a reservation and we were checking the status of the wait time. Her response "...I'm not sure what to tell you, we're doing the best we can. We can't make people get up."

No, we're not asking for that. However, we are asking for some common decency to acknowledge us like everyone else that walked in. I don't believe that, just because we look young, that our money is no good here. Believe me when I say thay my boyfriend and I, as successful small business owners have money and plenty of it... to spend somewhere else.

My husband and I visit cape may three times a year! We stumbled upon the merion inn two years and became one of my husbands favorites!! Tonight we were seated in the back dining room past the bar! Dinner was delicious and we were having such a great date night until...........in walked a party of eight! Apparently some of them worked there and knew a lot of the people, they were the rudest, most obnoxious set of people I have ever met! They were rascist actually saying that JEWS were not an important part of their vacation! They were loud, the woman who apparently worked there was the loudest of all! The men were rude, they were saying the F word as if it was part of every day language! We didn't have dessert, we didn't complain until we left, but the prices and he ambiance that this place has,mic their employees can act the way they do and not care about the others in the dining room makes me wonder what kind of establishment it is!!! Would I go back, most likely, did I need to vent , absolutely, just know that if this happens to you , you will be out of luck, because when we told the waitress in no uncertain terms, it was ignored!

Unfortunately won't be able to review the food because we left before wasting any additional time here.

To clarify, it's not about having to wait on a busy night, we understand and would have waited. It's 100% about being spoken to in a way that is rude and uncalled for.

My husband and I had dinner at the Merion Inn last Friday. The food was good and our waitress was excellent. However, we had a big problem with the hostess and the man who seated us. I’m disabled with limited walking ability. I rely primarily on a transport chair, which my husband pushes. When we arrived at the restaurant, the hostess failed to inform us that there was a side entrance with a ramp. (Nor was there a sign for it.) Instead, she watched me struggle up the stairs to the dining area and offered no assistance. The area was crowded and it took me quite a while to get up. When I finally made it, the man who took us to our table rudely told me that I would have to stow my transport chair in a separate room far removed from our table. He didn’t offer to assist with the chair or bring it to us when we left. Only on leaving the restaurant did we happen to discover the ramp on our own! I definitely would not recommend the Merion Inn to anyone with disabilities since they are totally insensitive and unhelpful.
